Welcome to the Finger Lakes Fencing Society!

We are a group of fencers from around Ithaca, New York who started meeting in Summer 2007 to enjoy modern fencing according to the rules of the United States Fencing Association. There are other variations of fencing, including Practices

Come play with us! Our doors are open to new members of any age and experience level. Beginners are welcome, children are welcome, and their grandparents are welcome, too!

We practice on Wednesdays from 5-7:30 at the Varna Community Association (see the links at left for directions and maps). We begin with group warm-ups and stretching, followed by footwork and then blade drills, all led by Coach Al Peters. (This is a great work out.) During the last hour, we free fence, and many of us take individual lessons with Al.

Most of us have had some experience fencing before, but beginners are welcome to drop by and see what fencing is all about. Don't forget to bring a water bottle, a clean pair of athletic shoes, and loose, comfortable clothing, such as sweatpants and a t-shirt. The club doesn't (yet) have equipment to lend out, but many vendors offer inexpensive beginner kits (see the links at left). Hope to see you here!
