Welcome to the Finger Lakes Fencing Society! We are a group of fencers from around Ithaca, New York who come together to enjoy modern, Olympic-style foil, epee, and saber. Our doors are open to new members of any age and experience level. Beginners are welcome. Children are welcome. Grandparents are welcome PracticesCome play with us! We practice on Wednesdays from 5-7:30 at the Varna Community Association (see the links at left for directions and maps). We begin with group warm-ups and stretching, followed by footwork and then blade drills, all led by Coach Al Peters. During the last hour, we free fence, and many of us take individual lessons. Most of us have had some experience fencing before, but beginners are welcome to drop by and see what fencing is all about. Don't forget to bring a water bottle, a clean pair of athletic shoes, and loose, comfortable clothing, such as sweatpants and a t-shirt. The club doesn't (yet) have equipment to lend out, but many vendors offer inexpensive beginner kits (see the links at left). Hope to see you here! Coach Al PetersA bio of our esteemed coach goes here? LogoAny ideas? I suggest a color scheme of blue and silver. They're kinda watery colors, like the Finger Lakes themselves, plus silver is the color of steel. I think they look nice together (I lived with them as my high school colors for four years and didn't get too sick of them, anyway). Perhaps most importanly, they aren't red and white, like so many other things in Ithaca. Here are a few of the logo suggestions that I've heard so far:
Other Stuff to RememberGive credit for salute picture Should we make them call for prices? I'll clean up the pictures of the crossed swords with a visit to campus and its graphics programs... Once we have News, I can get rid of the stuff about logos and stuff to remember to make room for a News section. Or I could merge the "Practices" and "Coach" sections with "Where We Play" and use the homepage for news.
