Coach Al Peters

The Finger Lakes Fencing Academy is lucky have, as coach, Al Peters, the former head fencing coach at Cornell University.

Al was 1974 Intercollegiate Epee champion while fencing for New York University. Al then fenced at the New York Athletic Club and was on a team that won three consecutive national titles. From 1978 to 1982, he studied with Maitre Michel Sebastiani at the Sebastiani Fencing Academy in Houston, Texas. Al remained nationally ranked in both Foil and Epee for many years.

Al began teaching fencing while in Houston. After leaving the Sebastiani academy, he started the Rice University Fencing Club where he taught for ten years. This is still one of the premier fencing clubs in the Southwest. Al was assistant fencing coach at Princeton University from 1992-1995 and was head fencing coach at Cornell University from 1995-2005.

Al now lives in Brooktondale. He teaches fencing at the Salle D'Armes Lazar in Binghamton, at the SUNY Binghamton fencing club, and at the Finger Lakes Fencing Society here in Ithaca.
