About FencingIf you've never fenced before, welcome! There are many good introductions to fencing on the web. The United States Fencing Association (USFA) is the national governing body of our sport, and their website is a good resource for fencing news, schedules, and results for the national and international levels. They also keep lists of fencing clubs by state and a list of vendors. Useful for beginning fencers is their introduction to fencing page. The wikipedia also has a nice overview. The USFA has the official say on fencing in the United States, but to hear from the fencers themselves, visit fencing.net. There you'll find discussion boards, equipment reviews, forums, blogs, and articles on rules, armoring (equipment maintenance), training tips, news, and almost everything else that touches the fencing world (if you'll excuse the pun). If you are interested in competing, askFRED.net (the Fencing Results and Events Database) can help you find, register for, and see the results of local and regional tournaments. Are you curious about how the electric scoring system works? Here is a short article written by one of our members explaining the techological side of fencing. If these introducitons still leave you with questions, we would be more than happy to answer them in person at practice. |
